Announcing the 2024 Media Artist + Activist Residencies

MAR 2024 BANNER

PHILADELPHIA, PA — In the fourth year of the Media Artist + Activist Residency, Leeway Foundation is proud to announce $150,000 in funding to 6 women, trans*, and gender nonconforming media collaborations working with social justice/cultural organizations to document, reframe, and/or amplify the issues and campaigns of the organizations.

This year’s cohort of awardees share a focus on the importance of preservation and documentation as tools for restorative and liberatory practices addressing social issues impacting us on local, state, and global levels. The Media Artist + Activist Residency aims to reveal and extend the ways that artists and artistic processes can work within cultural and social justice organizations to achieve social change.

Awardees will utilize a diverse range of media including audio, podcast, film, multimedia installations, and web-based content. Projects include but are not limited to: decarceration through the perspective of youth, documentation of Indigenous people in the Greater Philadelphia region, and combatting the dehumanization of Arab/SWANA and Muslim communities.
