Ants on a Log
Ants on a Log makes music for children and other childlike people, songfully advocating for positivity, social justice, and silliness. In their off-stage lives, Julie Be (they/them) is a music therapist and Anya Rose (she/her) is an elementary science teacher. Their powers combined make for smart and socially conscious folk, a delight for children and adults of all ages.
The Ants' musical "Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!" is based on the true story of Philadelphia’s fight for clean air, and inspired by the youth-led climate change movement. In 2019 the “Curious” Soundtrack won a Parents’ Choice Award, and in 2021 the Ants released the puppet-powered "Curious" movie. In 2020, Julie Be produced the "Trans & Nonbinary Kids Mix," a compilation of songs from artists all over the gender map that gained national acclaim as a landmark album in the world of intersectional media for children.
Since 2014, families have relied on Ants on a Log for their ongoing social justice soundtrack, full of harmony and humor.

The variety show will be held at Abington Library, in partnership with the library’s programs for LGBTQ+ youth and allies. Ants on a Log will use their skills as music therapists to create a safe space for youth and facilitate songwriting that focuses on the joys and strengths of being queer, while also navigating challenges and negative feelings that may arise.

Overview
Ants on a Log was invited to list their musical "Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!" on Songs for Teaching, a website that provides music and musicals to teachers, music and theater directors, and other educators. “Curious” is the story of a young girl and her genderqueer sibling who organize their community to fight for clean air. Listing this eco-feminist musical would enable schools, camps, and other youth-centered orgs to license and perform the show in their communities
This grant will support Ants on a Log in recording backing tracks and producing a script to ensure that students and teachers are able to sing along and thus produce the musical as a part of their music and theater curriculum.
