Taína Asili and Monica McIntyre in Philly

Taína Asili (LTA '05, ACG '05) y la Banda Rebelde and Monica McIntyre will be reuniting in the place where they met, Philly, for a special night of performances!

A Leeway grantee, Taína makes art that carries on the tradition of her Puertorriqueño, Taíno and African ancestors, blending spoken-word, poetry, song, visual art, and creative writing — historically voiced by my ancestors through poetry-prayer-songs called arieto and etchings archeologists call petroglyphs and hieroglyphs. She will be celebrating the release of her latest album "Fruit of Hope". Her group Taina Asili y la Banda Rebelde combine powerful vocals with an energetic fusion of Afro-Latin, reggae and rock, inspiring audiences to dance to the movement of rebellion.

Monica McIntyre, based in New Orleans, seamlessly blends: Blues, Soul, Classical, Jazz, Reggae and Middle Eastern sounds with the unique cello techniques of: slapping, plucking and strumming, into an unforgettable musical landscape.

Don't miss this incredible performance on Saturday, August 16 at The Rotunda (4014 Walnut Street). The doors open at 8:00pm and the show begins at 8:30pm. Tickets will be $10-$15 sliding scale. For more information and updates, check out the Facebook event.
