Overview
Tamara Anderson (ACG ‘11, ’20; WOO ‘23) has been selected to participate in the Hermitage Artists Retreat from August 29-September 3, 2023. This retreat, located in Englewood, Florida, gives artists something that they often do not have, the gift of unfettered and unscheduled time to be creative and still. During the retreat, Tamara will be working on completing a full-length play, featuring three Black female characters over the age of 60. Additionally, the retreat will provide Tamara the opportunity to meet with other artists and collaborate. The WOO grant will help cover food and transportation expenses during the retreat.

Art and Change Grant (ACG)
Overview
Tamara will create a short play/skit that will serve as a platform for dropout prevention and shine a light on the dire need for sustainable programs for individuals who self select to leave or are pushed out of school. Narratives will be collected through a series of interviews and writing workshops with students that are high school dropouts and adjudicated youth from E3 Centers and St. Gabe. The collected material will be used to develop a script and will be performed live for middle school, high school, and adult audiences to give an honest portrayal of this population, and to allow their stories to be heard.
