Overview
LaNeshe’s project, Theatre in the X, will provide the people of West Philadelphia and the African American community-at-large the opportunity to see professional quality theater in their own neighborhood for no cost. With two, reversed-raced presentations of Shakespeare’s Othello, LaNeshe seeks to break down the inaccessibility of Shakespeare for audiences to experience the universal themes of racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, revenge, and repentance. LaNeshe’s goal is to connect the community and artists in an exchange about the power of the arts, the needs of the community, and how each can help the other.

Overview
LaNeshe will facilitate Theater in Malcolm X Park, a project that will bring theater to the West Philadelphia community, taking place over three weekends in June and July. The project will be free and feature professional African American theater artists presenting work that reflect the African American experience. Through this project, LaNeshe hopes to encourage a sense of pride in both the city and African American plays. The goal of the project is to make this theater festival a summer tradition, fostering a sense of unity and pride within the West Philadelphia community and the larger African American theater community in Philadelphia.
