Maori Karmael Holmes (LTA, '06, ACG '06, '05) Leeway's former Associate Director, was recently appointed as Director of Academic and Public Partnerships for the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN). As Director of Academic and Public Partnerships Maori will conceptualize a new department to envision and deepen participation at ICA from across UPENN and with a diverse public through partner organizations, cultural and civic leaders, artists’ communities, and other educational organizations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Holmes will also expand ICA’s internal and external diversity plan creating relationships with new community audiences in depth and over time.

Maori said, “The ICA has been an incredible partner for me and organizations with which I have been working over the past several years. The remarkable exhibitions and programs presented by the curators have consistently been a source of inspiration. I am honored to have the opportunity to step into this brand new role. I look forward to building upon the museum’s efforts to engage the university and greater community to diversify our audiences and forge new connections.”

“ICA is honored to have the multitalented and much admired Maori Holmes join our team” says ICA Director, Amy Sadao, “Over and over, Maori has conceived and produced innovative, creative, necessary programs for wide ranging audiences. She seamlessly bridges music, education, performance, cinema, art, literature, and social justice. I am thrilled to work with her to build new partnerships across Penn and the city.”
