The Colored Girls Museum Opens Making Space @Awbury

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Awbury Arboretum will host Making Space @Awbury, the 2nd iteration of an installation created by The Colored Girls Museum (TCGM) for the Leeway Foundation’s Making Space: Leeway@25.
As noted by Syd Carpenter (ACG ‘12, LAA ‘99), curator of the TCGM’S installation for Leeway, “The works exhibited here claim individualized aesthetic territory while participating in dialogues drawn from history, tradition and symbolism.” Making Space @Awbury features the works of 14 different artists, and includes paintings, photographs, textiles, and ceramics, curated by Michael Clemmons. Join Awbury for an opening reception on Friday, March 15th, with a reading by author and scholar DaMaris Hill from her new book A Bound Woman Is a Dangerous Thing, a Publishers Weekly Top 10 History Title.
The event is free, but space for opening & book reading is limited – please register at http://awbury.org/events/making-space-opening/.
This exhibit will continue to be on display March 15 – April 2019.
Galleries are open Tuesday-Thursday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Fridays 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
