Overview
Wit is a disabled and chronically ill, nonbinary trans/gender non-conforming, queer, intersex performance artist of African American and Boricua descent. Wit uses movement, music, costuming, props, and storytelling to address issues that deeply impact their communities by harnessing themes like gender identity/gender fluidity, body image, disability, illness, hairiness, sexuality, Blackness, Latinidad, and class.
They are a classically trained mezzo-soprano, flautist, and actor, with extensive training in West African dance, Afro-Puerto Rican dance, ballet, and modern. Due to disability, illness and gender identity, Wit no longer performs with troupes and began creating performance pieces that allow them to explore their body at its own pace and in ways that are affirming of their gender identity.
