Toni Kersey and Christina E. Johnson will facilitate a workshop that will be part of a larger initiative to create a viable presence for women of as part of the programming featured during Fiber Philadelphia 2012. The students will create a contemporary mini wall hanging of geometric shapes inspired by the fiber art seen in the exhibit. Text will be added using one to three descriptive words of their choosing. Designs will be used to build a fabric composition that results in a mini wall hanging. The centerpiece of the project will be an exhibition of six artists of color, at the Art Sanctuary. These workshops seek to educate under-served children about the fiber arts, provide access to artistic excellence and to broaden their cultural awareness.
