Talie
Talie (Nathalie Cerin) is a Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter and cultural worker originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Her music, a mixture of Haitian folk and soul music, is a testament to the two cultures that have shaped her as an artist and woman. In 2019, Talie released “Solèy Midi,” a twinkling collection of original compositions and Haitian folk songs chronicling a journey to find the sun. Solèy Midi is available on all major music purchasing and streaming platforms. Talie is also the Lead Editor and co-founder of Woy Magazine, an online platform that seeks to be a meeting place for Haitians in Haiti and abroad

Overview
Talie’s project, MIWA, Haitian Creole for “mirror,” is a new musical-visual project intertwining traditional folk songs from Haitian and Black American traditions, encompassing newly composed songs by Talie, alongside archival and new footage curated and created by Talie’s sister, Lunise Cerin. Retracing a collective lineage that spans generations of the Haitian diaspora, the work holds up the “mirror” of the title to everyday rituals of care and sacred rituals of ancestors, asking: How do we own our cultural inheritance in ways we name and don’t name? Through this project, Talie will have the opportunity to explore her tradition more fully, bringing forward the sounds and stories of her childhood, as she begins the composing phase of the project.
