Sonrisa is a Philadelphia based self-taught creator. A life long city dweller, she was born and raised in New York’s East Village neighborhood. With a background in illustration, textile fabrication, writing, and music, her current means of artistic expression is photography. Through her photographic practice, she explores the impermanence and levity of cities, the violence of displacement and the beauty of urban landscape life cycles.

Sonrisa will photograph public locations in the northern neighborhoods of West Philadelphia. The photos will be displayed, and residents will be invited to share oral histories and personal artifacts relating to these sites and their community in general. These narratives, in addition to her photos and artifacts from the community, will be compiled into a publication.
