Selina Carrera

Selina will create a bi-weekly event to showcase independent artists in the tri-state area. The event will combat the negative images often created through the mainstream music and entertainment industry, and will create a safe haven for youth and young adults. As a part of the event, Selina will also provide youth workshops on spoken-word performance and poetry to encourage youth to channel their emotions through a positive performance outlet outside of the common “club” scene. As a performance artist who walked away from a contract with a major record label, Selina hopes to use this project to create a powerful outlet for emerging independent artists.
