Overview
As a choreographer and dancer, Sara is interested in the forces that shape work and places a lot of value on the process of creation—the nature of the explorations they ask of the performers and the attention to who they are and how they ask the world to see them. Sara’s project will begin to work toward the development of a choreographic process guided by concepts of queer theory by generating experiments that explore “queer” guidelines of interaction and self presentation. Looking at broader principles of queer theory that promote fluidity, openness, and reclamation of the subversive, this investigation will employ four Philly dancers and will culminate with an open workshop. The performance artists will explore “queer(ed) guidelines of the choreographic process and the act of performance.” Sara hopes to present the idea that art for social change may not always be recognizable in thematic or narrative configurations, but that the values of socially and politically radical ideas can be the roots of the investigation and application of any performative work.
