Samantha will tour with Katz, a transgender spoken word performer in Georgia, to share her forthcoming book, GRIT. She will travel from Colorado to Atlanta to perform in independent bookstores, community centers, locally produced benefits, and venues. GRIT chronicles her non-traditional roles as a queer woman biker poet actively struggling with a history of sexual abuse and lifting barriers of shame and silence. Her performances challenge a gendered victim-hood and provide a model of a survivor who has reclaimed her erotic as a source of strength and change. Samantha will also facilitate workshops at each event, using poetry to encourage people to explore ways to shed the shame that blocks survivor’s potential for joy. She will gather these writings from participants to create a chapbook she will later pass back on to them, which they can in turn use for their own anti-violence fundraising, education or organizing purposes.
