Rocío Cabello

Location
Germantown

Rocío Cabello is a visual artist, cultural activist, educator and avid gardener originally from Peru. Her personal studio practice involves bending wire to twist, write and draw works that reflect on themes of personal growth, parenthood, the tragic disconnection between humans and nature and the resilience of the human spirit. A more public aspect to her artwork includes sidewalk paintings, murals, playground floor games and a handful of “green interventions” in the form of public unfenced gardens in NYC and now in Philadelphia.

Rocío is also the executive director of iMPeRFeCT Gallery, a grassroots not-for-profit alternative art space she co-founded in Germantown in 2012. In this more public facet of her, she is more of a cultural producer, as the gallery presents a wide variety of artistic expressions while giving their exhibiting artists as much freedom as possible. This project has broadened the impact she has in her community; in a place hungry for culture, the gallery is now a hub for creatives and art lovers to talk, share and inspire each other.
