Natalie will invite homeless women living in the Philadelphia shelter system who have experienced domestic violence to make a collaborative visual art sculpture about their lived experiences of that violence. First, the women will have the opportunity to make individual artwork on fabric and to share this artwork and their experiences with the group. These textile pieces will then be collaged onto a life-sized sculpture of a woman, and the finished sculpture will be displayed at the Women’s Solo Project Annual Gala. Natalie hopes this 3D representation of the experience of domestic violence will serve as a reminder of the physicality and lasting effects this violence had on women’s bodies and emotions, and will spark thought and further conversation on this topic.
