Mica Root

Through photographs and short written pieces, Mica will document the beauty and personality of Philadelphia's 74 public swimming pools. In this moment when all of our public goods, from education to fire services, are under attack, these shimmering respites from our sweltering city summers, and the 800+ seasonal and year-round workers who keep them open, are more important than ever. Mica wants to lift them up as an example of the best of what Philadelphia is and can be before the pools come under attack again.
