The solar photograms from Human Nature have grown out of a lifelong interest in the relationships between time and light, the seasons and photography. These elements are inextricably linked from both a technical and metaphoric perspective. The work explores the delicate balance between life and death, nature and culture, between contemplation of the inner realm and turning attention to the outer world.

Small children embody a reminder of the essential truth in the teachings of nature. Children also symbolize hope, joy, simplicity, growth, freedom, purity, exuberance and wonder. As they live, so shall we die. Yet, a child is a powerful example of the flame of the life that never dies.
