Malika will create costumes and decorate stilts in preparation for performances throughout the year and at the Kwanzaa Children's Festival in December for children from North Philadelphia ages 6 to 12, aided by members of their families. In the course of studying the principals and symbols of Kwanzaa, they will learn decorative design skills and participate in craft arts including sewing, traditional face painting, construction of ornamental bead belts and neckpieces to become the 2020 African American Stilt Ballet Performing Arts Group. Kwanzaa is a unique opportunity to work on social and cultural preservation and provides youth and their families with a sense of community, personal identity, and purpose.
