Awarded Grants
2024
Window of Opportunity Grant (WOO)
Overview
Maci Kociszewski has been accepted into the May apprenticeship with Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover, Vermont, one of the oldest nonprofit, political theatre companies in the country. The apprenticeship is three weeks long and involves show production, movement and dance, printmaking, paper-mache, and puppet and mask handling and repairing. Apprentices will camp on the farm during the three weeks, participate in rehearsals and chores, and work with Peter Schumann, the founder, towards a first draft of a new show to be performed on June 2, 2024 at the Bread and Puppet Museum Opening. Maci will be working six days a week on the puppets and performance, living in nature simply, and creating collaborative performance art with twenty other apprentices, local volunteers, and staff.
The WOO Grant will help cover the apprenticeship fee, transportation, and camping supplies.
2021
Art and Change Grant (ACG)
Overview
Maci Kociszewski's project is a harm reduction-focused installation paired with weekly workshops. The installation has three sections: an atmospheric room for conversation, a replica of an overdose prevention site, and a room with models that envision the future of health/care. These workshops will be virtual and/or socially-distanced and share ideas of mutual aid, like neighborhood clean-ups and Narcan training and distribution – with the hope of distributing tools and disseminating knowledge of harm reduction, activating community members, and establishing comprehensive community care toward structural change.
