Lisa will create Red Thread, a project for six women dance artists, three in their late fifties and three in their mid-twenties, that takes inspiration from women’s quilting circles where art is made communally, patterns are shared, and conversation and togetherness take part in creating something of both utility and beauty. Showings, workshops, and performances, will transmit the depth and importance of women’s relationships with each other, the ongoing transmission across generations, and the value of elders in communities. Read Thread will also act as a forum for older women artists to share with each other, their next generation counterparts, and with audiences in general, to spread their counterculture socio-political messages of their work in a workshop setting. Their aim is celebrate human communication, aging and healthy, sustainable use of our bodies. The project will culminate with performances and workshops in March 2010.
