Power Grrrls will be an after-school theater-based program for lower-income, underserved teen girls from NW Philadelphia. Its goals are to use Theater of the Oppressed-based techniques to build a vibrant teen girl ensemble that will develop and perform a high-quality interactive theater piece about issues that matter to them. They will learn to express personal and social issues while learning core performance skills. Power Grrrls will develop their potential as creative thinkers in terms of artistic expression and how to respond to the world, and freely identify and learn to deal with conflict. It will also foster leadership skills, as these girls will become peer mentors to the newer Power Grrls who join the program.
