Lenora’s film, EMBARKATIONS, explores the family life of John Coltrane during his early years as a young musician in Philadelphia, and focuses on the family’s experience as members of the 2nd Great Migration. The film will not only preserve Coltrane’s story but will also relate the black housing problems of the past to today’s struggle to attain decent housing. Lenora intends to record local history, foster communal identity, and encourage resistance to neighborhood incursion, gentrification, and dissolution.
