Kimberly will photograph and record stories of long-time residents of Brewerytown, North Philadelphia as a way of keeping alive the tradition of oral history while preserving the voices of a community threatened with displacement. The stories and photographs will be available to people in the community as a mechanism of community accountability and as a means of opening up space to dialogue and strategize about gentrification. Kimberly will frame this project in the larger context of Black Americans being continuously displaced starting with chattel slavery, through the Great Migration, and currently through gentrification and other forms of urban revitalization.
