Julia will coordinate The Art of Growing Up, which seeks to create a positive and life-affirming rite of passage for adolescent girls using a range of art forms as tools for self-exploration and expression. The curriculum includes lessons in mask making and dancing inspired by Dipo traditions (of Ghana) and poetry inspired by Apache traditions. The program connects these diverse traditions with some of the contemporary "rites of passage" that girls may be more familiar with such as the Jewish Bat Mitzvah, Latin American Quinceañera, and Sweet Sixteen (USA). As the girls move through the program they will work together to create their own rite of passage ceremony, which becomes the program's culminating event.
