To combat self-stigmatization and foster positive self-identity for the trans community of Greater Philadelphia, this creative writing and altered book making project will serve to offer a safe and nurturing atmosphere for self-reflection and self-expression, as well as strengthening community. Participants will construct their individual stories through the creation of altered books. Each artist will meet once a week for two hours, for a total of nine weeks, and will transform an existing book into a new work or art using various techniques. The last session will provide an exhibition opportunity for those participants who wish to share and celebrate their work with friends and family.
