Overview
Jean Wong’s project comprises a site-specific, biodegradable painting-installation at Tanoma AMD in Indiana County, followed by a free education and art-making program in Cobbs Creek Park in Philadelphia. Jean will hand-make biodegradable seed paper from organic materials native to the area and use pigments derived from the iron oxide residue found there to interrogate Pennsylvania’s coal mining history, its infrastructures and labor conditions, and the lasting impact of this industry on residents of the state. The project hopes to emphasize the vulnerability of our waterways at the hands of capital industrialization in PA, as well as spark curiosity and conversations about how to heal our local waterways.
