Gabrielle Patterson

Gabrielle Patterson is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans animation, film, illustration, and installation. She is a worker-owner of Bonfire Media Collective, a cooperative video production company telling human stories that catalyze social change. In collaboration with the Human Rights Coalition, Gabrielle co-directed and produced Bonfire's latest production I Can't Breathe: The Toxic Prisons Campaign's Fight for Environmental Justice. This powerful documentary exposes the connections between environmental injustice and the carceral system and amplifies the voices of those fighting for the rights of incarcerated individuals from both inside and outside prison walls. Ever curious to try new techniques, Gabrielle looks forward to incorporating more experimental and immersive techniques into her storytelling as her practice evolves.

Gabrielle Patterson will collaborate with The People’s Kitchen to create a mixed media video piece, as well as illustrations, animations, and short-form video content for social media on gardening, sustainable agriculture, and food traditions. Through relationship building, interviews, and surveys, Gabrielle will learn about the food traditions of the neighbors of The People’s Kitchen Gardens, the impact the gardens have on them, and incorporate this knowledge into her work – amplifying the garden’s larger goals related to land justice, food insecurity, and community land sovereignty.
