Erica Hawkins
Erica Hawkins is an emerging filmmaker and educator and a recent transplant to the Greater Philadelphia area. Much of Erica's work and teachings center around history, particularly African Diaspora histories and experiences. Erica is currently working on her passion project entitled Things We Gathered from the Fire.

Window of Opportunity Grant (WOO)
Overview
Erica Hawkins recently received the Black Music City Grant for a short film about The Famous Davis Sisters of Philadelphia. Titled Twelve Gates to the City, the 8-minute film explores the impact of The Famous Davis Sisters’ sound on the city of Philadelphia and across Pop, Rock, R&B, and Soul music – and will share original interviews and footage from the family of The Famous Davis Sisters. Erica will have the opportunity to consult with Micah Coleman, the grandson of Thelma Davis before its premiere in June. The WOO Grant will support Erica with finishing funds for various costs including equipment, as well as an honorarium for family expertise and archival footage.

Overview
Erica will direct Things We Gathered from the Fire, a personal essay documentary following her journey, as she grieves the death of her father some 26 years later. Like many millennials today, Erica is shaking tables by seeking therapy to understand the trauma of her father's death due to racial violence and its impact on her life.
