Overview
My work takes the form of a document recording personal experience. Formats vary with experience. The format may refer to pages in a journal, notes froma sketchbook, a slide record, a topographical map or an aerial view of the landscape. In each case, the location depicted has personal significance closely connect to experiences and relationships. All the work contains reference to the landscape.
"Her Visions" is a recent body of work that explores the physical and spiritual landscape of a family member. Bedridden for the last five years, my mother's view was both restricted and limitless. Through the use of a window format, the work explores the light and shadow of her existence. Limited in color, the series depicts the illusion of windows, sheer curtains and looking out. Metaphorically it explores the reality of looking within. The blowing curtain of horsehair may veil the external landscape, but it reveals the internal spirituality.
