Carol will create one half-hour documentary on Deaf artists whose performances deal with their challenges and triumphs similar to those of other underrepresented groups. Her project will bring together artists under the umbrella of Deaf culture, the only culture rooted in a disability, with its own collective history and language mirroring its development. The documentaries will also explore the struggle to have every state acknowledge the language of Deaf Americans. Carol hopes to educate and entertain, all the while shining a much-needed light on American Sign Language as both a valid and valued form of communication, as well as a valid and valued alternative means of artistic and self expression.

Carol will be featured at PFP’s storytelling salon series to share her experiences as a hearing parent of Deaf children. She will also start the creation of a documentary of “visual stories” told by, of and about Deaf people using American Sign Language. Her storytelling and documentary will educate people and erode stereotypes, as well as share stories of people who are often ignored.
