BL Shirelle
BL Shirelle is an accomplished musician, producer, and songwriter. Shirelle serves as Co-Executive Director of Die Jim Crow (DJC) Records, the first non-profit record label in United States history for currently and formerly incarcerated artists. After serving ten years in prison herself, Shirelle is dedicated to social change and activism through her music and work with DJC Records. Simply Naomi is a singer and songwriter. They are two formerly incarcerated women/musicians who have been collaborating since they met while incarcerated at Muncy State Correctional Facility. At Muncy, they connected over their musical practices and shared commitment to using their voices to fight for incarcerated people, especially women serving life without parole and incarcerated elders.
Since their respective releases, they have continued to collaborate with each other and other formerly incarcerated artists to create music that speaks to the experiences of incarceration and the trajectories that led them there. They are committed to bringing together their music and activism to uplift the work of organizations doing frontline work to support people affected by incarceration.
