Betty will create an exhibition presenting the photography of Bessie McLamb, a 20th century African American photographer whose work is often overlooked or mistaken for the work of her husband, John McLamb a.k.a. Hy-John the Conqueror Through this exhibition, Betty aims to make visible the stories of working class black life in Philadelphia, a history that has almost been erased.  Betty believes it is her life-long mission to share Bessie McLamb’s work with the world, preserve these photos and subsequently, a slice of black life for future generations. Betty will work with Scribe Video Center to exhibit the work as part of their Great Migration celebration.
