Bernadene will teach and supervise the creation of an original book of poetry by youth, ages 4-12. Utilizing various writing formats such as rhyme and alliteration, Bernadene will facilitate both the children’s writing process as well as stage presence. Not only will the children have their book produced and professionally printed, but they will also travel to the Library of Congress to recite their work – an experience that will be digitally documented and broadcast on community television. Through her project, Bernadene hopes to decrease marginalization in the lives of these children as well as preserve African American writing in the community.
