Overview
Beeta Baghoolizadeh is creating an animated documentary film, Diaspora Letters: Postmarks between Iran and the U.S., based on the letters and packages sent by families based in Iran and diaspora in the 20th and 21st centuries. The film will aim to humanize Iranians in light of the government’s vitriolic war rhetoric and the Muslim Ban. The animated graphics will be accompanied by archival footage, found audio, and interviews tracing how people negotiated distance and longing through tangible expressions of love and belonging. Beeta will facilitate workshops at Twelve Gates Arts around the creation of the film and discussions about the diversity of the Iranian American experience, the consequences of war, and sanctions on the last 40 years of Iranian history.
