Amatus

Amatus will develop a multi-disciplinary media piece that will act as a jumping-off point to explore the reasons for Philadelphia's homicide statistics in 2006. Her music/docu-video, I Didn't Know will create a space for Philadelphia's community members to question and express why this city was ranked number one in the nation for homicide fatality that year. It will follow the testimonies of victims of gun violence in hopes of framing the delicate relationship between aspiration and tragedy. Personal accounts from community members will create a backdrop and context of voices that the 664 deceased left behind that year. This explication in sound and media will include interviews and original music from local Philadelphia artists and victims' families.
