Amalia Gabriel Colón-Nava
Amalia is a farmer and multi-disciplinary artist that loves to move. The majority of her formal education is in dance performance but she has always loved food and playing in the dirt. She joined as a founding member of Dirtbaby Farm in 2021. She works for the Painted Bride as the project manager for the Resistance Garden Project. She believes we must heal our severed connection with the land on both a personal and global level in order to save our planet from the existential threat of climate change. She is noticing cycles of change and moves through life infusing her love for nurturing the earth with her passion for dance, care, play and sensation.

Overview
Amalia Gabriel Colón-Nava’s will research new and ancestral knowledge of agriculture techniques and urban farming based on the cultural practices of Huerto Tlatelolco and their familial land in Zacatecas. The project will involve a travel immersion to Mexico and, upon their return, Amalia will implement new growing practices and share knowledge through their work at Dirtbaby Farms, a worker-owned, community-supported farm educating community members and feeding over 50 Philadelphia households. Additionally, Amalia will host a culminating event in Philadelphia, incorporating heritage gardening, culinary arts, and performance.
