Sophia Tresa Chirayil
Sophia (she/her) is a performance artist, exploring various forms of South Asian music and dance in a global, contemporary context. She has been trained in Carnatic singing, Bharatanatyam, choral music, opera, vocal jazz, classical piano, and guitar.
Before joining Leeway, she worked as the Program Assistant at the South Asian American Digital Archive and completed a fellowship in Restorative Practices with Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE). She is also a former Fulbright Commission award recipient for the US-UK Summer Institutes at Queen’s University Belfast, where she studied and researched global conflicts and peacemaking.
Sophia is passionate about promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue through the arts and creating space for more women artists of color (like herself) to express themselves freely.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Studies and minors in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Vanderbilt University.
