Erika Guadalupe Núñez
Manager of Community Programs at Fleisher Art Memorial
Erika Guadalupe Núñez (she/her/hers/ella) is a queer immigrant, artist, and cultural organizer. After emigrating from Mexico at a young age with her mother, Erika Guadalupe grew up sin papeles and eventually sin miedo and began working as a community organizer for various local and national campaigns for immigrant rights in 2011. As the resident artist of Juntos, Erika Guadalupe's public work centers around creating art for rallies and protests with members of her community, in order to highlight issues of inequality as they pertain to the immigrant rights movement. She believes that through art, we can build power and critical awareness of the world around us in order to secure a future grounded in resiliency, healing, and expression for new generations. Erika Guadalupe’s personal work is inspired by her culture and upbringing and seeks to plant the semillas of home she carries with her everywhere.
By day, Erika Guadalupe works as the Manager of Community Programs at Fleisher Art Memorial. She is a Leeway Grantee (ACG ’15, ACG ’17, and Transformation ’17) and was awarded the David Acosta Revolutionary Leadership Award from GALAEI with a commendation from the city for her immigrant rights work in 2015. Recent fellowships have included Emerging City Champions with the Knight Foundation and the Advocacy Leadership Institute with the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC). Erika Guadalupe graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in Fine Arts, Printmaking. She lives in South Philadelphia with her bunny and cat.
