Project HOME Seeks Teaching Artist
Project HOME Art Program is growing and in need to hire a narrative based visual teaching artist who would be available for a six month, eight hour a week, $25 an hour opportunity to facilitate two classes and mentor two Project HOME Resident Artists in their journey to becoming Teaching Artists.
Job Summary
In collaboration with Art Program and broader Project HOME community, the Teaching Artist will work with resident artist to develop teaching experience as well as provide high quality art programing at two Project HOME Sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Develop and implement art curriculum in collaboration with two Project HOME Artists for two Project HOME Sites;
-Train Resident Artist in Classroom Management and practical teaching artist applications
- Facilitate outreach to residents and community members to encourage participation in art classes;
-Accurately document Art Program participant enrollment and attendance,
-Provide a safe space in which people from all walks of life feel comfortable participating in art class
-Maintain compassionate and nurturing environment before, during and after classes
-Share experiences and insight that encourages participants to be their best selves.
-Participate and contribute in program meetings
-Maintain inventory of art supplies
- Assist with coordination of culminating art shows, including, labeling and hanging works;
- Advertise events within Project HOME and to the outside community;
- Support Project HOME’s mission by broadening Project HOME’s base of support through Art Program outreach;
- Communicate with Art Program participants,Project HOME staff.
-Contribute to an organizational culture that encourages working, recovery and empowerment;
Eight hours a week:
First two weeks: team meetings, site visit, teaching artists workshops, curriculum building, build supply list, hold residential art program promotional meeting.
Following weeks: Twice a week, two hour class facilitation, at two Project HOME sites,
For Each Class:
Half Hour- set up, staff check in, resident engagement, supply preparation, Half Hour- Break down, clean up, supply storage, log attendance, Half Hour- Follow up, staff check in, class review.
Every Two weeks, a two hour program review development meeting.
Every eighth week: transition/program planning meetings, professional development workshop, curriculum building
Repeat eight week cycle until completion of six month program.
Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelor’s Degree in Arts or four (4) years relevant work experience;
-Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds using a trauma-informed approach;
-Interest in homelessness, mental health, recovery, and social justice issues;
-Passion for art and the willingness to engage others in art and share/teach skills;
-Excellent verbal & written communication skills;
-Excellent computer skills
-Excellent organization skills and attention to details;
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
-Ability to successfully manage several tasks simultaneously.
-Willingness to talk to residents in individual and group public setting;
-Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
