The Prison Summit and Art as Resistance Gallery

The Prison Summit and Art as Resistance Gallery will be held June 15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia (1101 Arch St) from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

The Art as Resistance Gallery pulls together the work of Philadelphia community organizers and individuals incarcerated in Pennsylvania prisons to lift up the voices of those who have been silenced and to shed light on the harmful effects of mass incarceration on our communities.

The Beyond the Walls: Prison Healthcare and Reentry Summit will bring together former prisoners, advocacy organizations, faith-based organizations, healthcare providers, activists, reentry programs, parole/probation officers, and prison staff. This summit will explore health and reentry challenges facing prisoners who are incarcerated and persons reentering our communities, including HIV, mental health challenges, substance use, housing, employment, mentorship, and educational programs.

The Institute for Community Justice (ICJ) was founded as part of Philadelphia FIGHT’s commitment to working to reduce not only the number of people in prison living with HIV, but also the lasting effects of mass imprisonment on communities most affected.

The mission of ICJ is to create a stigma-free space with innovative, prevention-focused programs that empower, educate and support people affected by the parallel crises of HIV and mass imprisonment, to protect community health, and raise consciousness around issues of social justice.
