Philadelphia Artist Summit

PHILADELPHIA ARTIST SUMMIT: a community conversation about artist sustainability in Philadelphia will take place on Monday, June 23 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Drexel University's URBN Center Annex (3401 Filbert St.) The event will be hosted by Amy Smith, Debbie Shapiro, Jenny Laden, and John Frisbee; and moderated by Debbie Shapiro and Julie Hawkins. As the Philadelphia cultural sector continues to expand and thrive, many individual artists are falling behind the curve in terms of pay equity, sustainable and consistent employment, and access to funding for their work. Join the discussion of the factors that have contributed to the under-valuation of creative work in the arts, and brainstorm about new models and advocacy tools, and about how to create an empowered and stable community of artists as a force to be reckoned with in the future. Semi-required reading: an interview with Charlotte Ford (ACG '12, '09, '08) on the untenable career of a "successful" Philly theatre artist. This is a free public forum, open to professional artists. All career levels and disciplines welcome. Click here to RSVPFollowing the discussion there will be a structured open mic for anyone who wishes to present.
