PAPA Mini-Residency Showcase

Asian Arts Initiative's Mini-Residency Program series supports and celebrates diverse theatrical projects from selected members of Philadelphia Asian Performing Artists (PAPA). Their cohort of residents includes Annielille Gavino (ACG '19), Marina Murayama Nir, and Daniel Park. Residents have developed their projects during the spring season and will present 20-30 minute works-in-progress showings. This showcase will take place Monday, July 15, at 7:00 pm at AAI (1219 Vine Street Philadelphia, PA 19107)

The showcase will feature work-in-progress excerpts from:

Emma Stone with Daniel Park
Emma Stone (working title) is a collaboratively created solo-performance by Daniel Park and Dean Rawlins. Mixing stand-up comedy, performance art, and multi-media, the work creates a space in which the anger of people of color is legitimized, released, and healed.

imprint, ember, hearth with Marina Murayama Nir
"imprint, ember, hearth" is an exploration of the Okinawan Kamiuta, a ceremonious song that celebrates sacred spaces on the islands. The project will be manifested as a series of music and sound collages; assembled with samples of elders singing the songs, orchestral loops, and electronic manipulation devices, a small video installation/altar set with visuals.

Patawili with Annielille Gavino
"Patawili" is a ritual of food, dance, and music from the Panay Island of the Philippines. Inspired from this, I want to create a new ritual of "Patawili," structured as a multi-disciplinary immersive dance theater specifically centered on Filipino-American stories.
Asian Arts Initiative is designed as a mobility accessible facility, with access to all public floors and spaces, and seating accommodations for programmed events. Both non-gendered and individually isolating restrooms are available on each floor, all equipped with changing stations.
