Join Scribe Video Center for an online presentation of The Nine O’clock Whistle on Thursday, January 14, 2021. From the narratives of Willa Cofield, her former students, and civil rights organizers, The Nine O’clock Whistle tells the story of a dramatic cultural shift that rocked the segregated town of Enfield, North Carolina in the mid-1960s. For years on Saturday night, white authorities blew a siren, signaling Blacks to clear the downtown streets, an oppressive practice adopted to maintain White supremacy. The harmful practice continued until 1963 when Enfield’s Black community rebelled.

The film will be followed by a post-screening discussion with Producers Willa Cofield and Karen Riley, viewable on Scribe’s Crowdcast platform.
