Call for Artists Submission Deadline February 11, 2021
Semi-Finalists are notified February 19, 2021
The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE), the Office of Councilwoman Maria Quiñones-Sánchez and Rebuild announce a Percent for Art opportunity for a site-specific, community driven, piece of public art for the Mann Rivera Renovation Project. The public art budget for the Mann Rivera Renovation Project is $103,000. The public art opportunity is the facility’s exterior perimeter wall along Allegheny Avenue and 5th Street. The art could include a mosaic installation, mural, or other sculptural elements. Artists who live or work in the local community around Mann Rivera will be prioritized for this opportunity, but any artist may apply. Priority will be given to artists who propose to work in collaboration with community members.
The goals of this project are to commission a site-specific public art piece that is a true reflection of the people, culture, and community of Fairhill and to create a landmark work of art at this highly visible location in Philadelphia’s vibrant Fairhill neighborhood. Community input is a priority for this project and artist teams are encouraged to work with the public to align their proposal with the desires and feedback from the community. A Public Input Meeting for Semi-Finalists will be held on February 23, 2021 to allow artists to hear directly from members of the Fairhill community who wish to share their ideas and aspirations about this project.
The Call for Artists is Part 1 of the Public Art Process for the Mann Rivera Renovation. In Part 1 three to five (3-5) Semi-Finalists will be selected by a committee comprised of community members. Semi-Finalists will receive a $1000 stipend to cover the costs of producing their proposal including images, models, renderings, or other materials.
