ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
The idea behind A Fertile Ground is to visually present the work from artists that participate in or facilitate programming at The Oasis Art Center. Oasis is an arts and education program in Philadelphia. Their work engages their specific communities by offering classes and workshops to adults and children in the community who are marginalized as a result of mental illness and/or retardation. Through creative interaction, students are empowered to realize their creative potential, improve their quality of life, and gain life skills.
The word oasis is defined as, "a pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult, troubled, or hectic place or situation". The Leeway Foundation will act as the oasis for the exhibition A Fertile Ground: Works on Paper From The Oasis Art Center, dedicating its walls to the works of art from artists all seeking to transform the lives of their viewers and themselves.
