Book Talk & Strategy Session to End School Pushout for Black Girls in Philadelphia

Girls Justice League is co-sponsoring, with the Education Law Center and Penn's Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education, an upcoming talk by Dr. Monique Morris on her new book, Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools. The event will be held at the William Way LGBTQ Community Center (1315 Spruce St), April 4 from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm.

Author, professor, and advocate Dr. Monique W. Morris will share her expertise and insight from her research and newly released book. After Dr. Morris’ keynote address, there will be conversations and workgroups led by girls of color, advocates, university partners, and girl serving organizations. This will be an opportunity to talk about strategies to dismantle the “School-to-Prison Pipeline” and foster positive and affirming school climate for girls of color in Philadelphia schools. The event is open to anyone interested in addressing School Pushout’s impact on Black girls in Philadelphia.
