Behind the Screen with Andrea Pippins

Lewis for a Behind the Screen conversation with renowned designer and blogger Andrea Pippins on the intersection between film, design, and black style.
Andrea is a Baltimore-based artist, designer and influencer whose work explores color, pattern and texture, interpreted through the lens of the African diaspora. Her blog Fly is a weekly resource in fashion, art and design that she has curated and produced since 2007. Through video, text and image, she reaches thousands of readers globally each week. Her past professional collaborations include Free People, Gap, Hallmark Cards, Nickelodeon Networks, TV Land, Vogue Italia, and Worth Global Style Network. She has worked with BlackStar Film Festival since 2013, providing art direction and identity. Andrea and her work have been featured in Color Lines, Creative Quarterly, CMYK, How Magazine, Canadian House & Home, Clutch Magazine, Refinery 29, and Graphis New Talent. In 2012, Andrea was recognized as one of Dell’s #100 Most Inspiring People. She also received First Place in the 2009 AIGA Campaign to Sustain Poster Competition and the 2008 Flux Design Competition for Best Identity and received Black Blog Awards’ Best Niche Blog Judge’s Pick in 2007. Andrea is a member of the design faculty at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

The Barnes Foundation offers free admission and programming on the first Sunday of every month. Visitors are welcome to attend talks, performances, and hands-on activities throughout the day. Tickets are limited and cannot be reserved in advance; they are available on-site starting at 9 am. First Sunday hours are from 10:00am to 5:00pm; with programming from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
