Art Sanctuary Presents Covered: Celebrating Muslim Women

On Saturday, September 15th, join Art Sanctuary as they celebrate a new exhibit, Covered: Celebrating Muslim Women. This series, created by artist Yusef Abdul Jaleel, will run from September 15th to November 15th in their gallery.

"Covered: Celebrating Muslim Women is an illustration series depicting various Muslim women of color. It was created to combat the negative stereotypes associated with modesty and covering. Muslim women are the most recognizable symbol of Islam today, and have been ridiculed and deemed “oppressed” for following guidelines mandated by their religion. It is my hope to counter these negative stereotypes by showing the variety and beauty of those who cover." —Yusef Abdul Jaleel

Admission is free, and donations are welcome.

Visit Art Sanctuary's site for more info and to register for the opening reception.
