VESSELS: 400 Year Commemorative Walk & Discussion
Artist Event
Grantee or Community Hosted

This year, 2019, marks 400 years since the first documented enslaved African people arrived on the shores of what is now called Virginia. Join VESSELS to sing, learn history, tell our own stories, and investigate our freedom practices, as we commemorate our African ancestors’ struggles and joys in the face of many manifestations of enslavement. Walk co-hosted with Muthi Reed (LTA '18, ACG '13, '10, '05) and Denise Valentine (WOO '04) in partnership with the creative team behind VESSELS, a seven-woman harmonic meditation on the Middle Passage that will have its world premiere at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts from March 7-10, 2019.
